Lt. Col. John Silva Deputy Commander, Garrison Operations Lt. Col. John Silva enlisted in the Army National Guard in 1984 and received his commission in 1989. He is a graduate of the College of Saint Joseph and the Indiana Military Academy’s Officer Candidate School. Lt. Col Silva also has extensive military education, including the Combined Arms Staff School and General Staff College. Lt. Col. Silva has served with honor in various leadership positions, including engineer platoon leader, executive officer, company commander, and brigade engineer. He also served as the Director of Public Works and Facilities and Engineering at Camp Atterbury Joint Maneuver Training Center. In 2008, Lt. Col. Silva deployed to Iraq with the 76th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, where he acted as the Brigade Engineer; upon his return, he was assigned as the Battalion Commander for the 38th Special Troops Battalion, 38th Infantry Division, Indiana National Guard. His numerous badges and awards include: Bronze Star, three Meritorious Service Medals, the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, the Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal.
