Command Sgt. Maj. Steven Bishop Jr. was born and raised in Richmond, IN. He enlisted in the United States Army Reserve on February 12, 1992 and entered active duty on June 16, 1993. Command Sgt. Maj. Bishop left active duty and entered the National Guard on January 2nd, 2001. He has held duty positions as Fire Support Specialist, Forward Observer, Company Fire Support NCO, Small Group Leader, Battalion Fire Support Sergeant, Operations Sergeant, First Sergeant, Operations Sergeant Major and Battalion Command Sergeant Major.
Command Sgt. Maj. Bishop’s previous assignments include tours with Battery B, 1st Battalion 319th AFAR, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, NC; Headquarters, 2nd Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division, Camp Hovey, Korea; Battery D, 319th AFAR, 1-508th Airborne Battalion Combat Team, Vicenza, Italy; Battery A, 3rd Battalion, 319th AFAR, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, NC; 18th Airborne Corps NCO Academy, Fort Bragg, NC; Headquarters Battery, 4th Battalion, 133rd FA, 49th Armor Division; Headquarters Company, 2nd Battalion 152nd Infantry (Mechanized), 38th Infantry Division; Headquarters, 38th Combat Aviation Brigade, 38th Infantry Division; Company A and C, 2nd Battalion 151st Infantry Regiment, 38th Infantry Division; and Headquarters, 2nd Battalion 151st Infantry Regiment, 38th Infantry Division. He deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom as the First Sergeant for A Company, 2nd Battalion 151st Infantry Regiment in 2009-2010.
Command Sgt. Maj. Bishop has attended all levels of the Noncommissioned Officer Education System and is a graduate of the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy. He is also a graduate of the Battalion CSM Pre-Command Course; Sniper Employment Leader Course; Tactical Information Operations Course; Joint Operational Fires and Effects Course; Joint Fires Observer Course; Joint Firepower Course; Small Group Instructor Training Course; Total Army Instructor Training Course; Rappel Master; Pathfinder; Air Assault; International Long Range Reconnaissance Patrol School’s CIS Recognition Course; NATO ACE Conventional Targeting and Weaponeering Course; and the Basic Airborne Course.
Command Sgt. Maj. Bishop’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal; Meritorious Service Medal (2nd Award); Army Commendation Medal (5th Award); Army Achievement Medal (6th Award); National Defense Service Medal (with 1 Bronze Star); Army Good Conduct Medal (2nd Award); Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; Korean Defense Service Medal; Afghanistan Campaign Medal (1 Campaign Star); Indiana Distinguished Service Medal; Texas Adjutant General’s Individual Award; Air Assault Badge; Basic Parachutist Badge; Pathfinder Badge; British Parachutist Badge; and the German Parachutist Badge. He is a member of the Order of St. Maurice (Centurion).
Command Sgt. Maj. Bishop holds a Baccalaureate Degree in Business Administration from Indiana University East.
